The largest gathering of underrepresented minority medical and premedical students across the United States and the Caribbean, the Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC) gives attendees several days of innovative programming geared at preparing the next generation of physicians for successful careers in medicine. With tens of educational workshops and programs focused on academic and clinical success, professional development, and personal growth, AMEC is a premier experience that catapults attendees toward becoming “clinically excellent, culturally competent, & socially conscious” physicians. Attendees will also enjoy the unique opportunity to network with colleagues, physicians, medical school/residency program representatives, and partners from all over the country.
The theme for this year’s AMEC is “Brilliance Embodied: Elevating the Mission and Revitalizing our Purpose”. The theme reflects what each element of our organization represents, how our initiatives uplift the SNMA’s mission, and the importance of reviving our overarching vision as we fully transition into a post-pandemic space.
For the past 59 years, the SNMA has exemplified brilliance in our efforts to diversify the face of medicine, serve under-resourced communities, and promote health equity and social justice for all. Thus, this year’s conference will feature several tracks related to these efforts, as well as specific programming for attendees across all levels of medical education. There will be special emphasis on how housing instability doubles as healthcare instability, and opportunities to serve those affected by housing instability. In addition, attendees will enjoy dynamic plenary and breakout sessions, ample networking opportunities, and an impressive exhibit hall, with 200+ exhibitors!
We are excited to present engaging workshops, dynamic speakers and panels that will provide unique insights for inspiring both student and professional audiences. Mainstage plenary sessions and panels will address topics such as: tackling the complexities of implicit bias and microaggressions in medical education, the impact of violence on public health, and the importance of physician advocacy in health care.
