eVisit Selected for AWS Health Equity Program to Bring Telehealth to the Underserved
PHOENIX, Ariz., March 16, 2022 — eVisit, the leading enterprise care delivery platform built for modern health systems and hospitals, today announced that it has been selected to receive cloud computing credits through a global program from Amazon Web Services (AWS), supporting organizations that are developing solutions to advance health equity. The credits grant, awarded as part of AWS’s $40 million global health equity program AWS launched last fall, will enable the eVisit Virtual Care Platform to serve as the backbone for expanding telehealth services to patients in select underserved populations.
The support will be used to deliver telehealth services in emergency response settings in participation with Medicare’s Emergency Triage, Treat and Transport (ET3) programs. eVisit has partnered with a leading national medical group and an emergency transportation service to execute on this initiative. The ambulances are equipped with tablet devices preloaded with the eVisit Virtual Care Platform. These tablets allow Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to facilitate live, on-site telehealth visits between patients who called 911 and virtual physicians.
These telehealth services will be provided free of charge to underserved patient populations that could include the homeless, abused children, battered spouses, illiterate individuals, people living with AIDS, and migrant farmworkers. A portion of the funds could also be used to offset the costs of treating uninsured patients in underserved communities. This new, innovative medical approach has the potential to enhance the delivery of healthcare to these patients while reducing the costs of unnecessary trips to the emergency room for treatment in cases where other care sites are deemed to be more appropriate.
AWS’s global health equity program is a three-year initiative that offers AWS credits and technical expertise to help companies around the world build and maintain IT-powered healthcare and social programs targeted at patients in underserved communities. The program focuses on three key areas — increasing access to healthcare services, reducing disparities by addressing social determinants of health, and leveraging data to promote equitable and inclusive systems of care. The eVisit Virtual Care Platform resides on the AWS cloud and leverages several AWS services including BioTech Blueprint, Cloud Formation, AWS Lambda, and more.
“The eVisit mission statement reflects the synergy between our company vision and the driving purpose behind AWS’ health equity program,” said Bret Larsen, CEO and co-founder of eVisit. “Combining our virtual care platform with the emergency response services provided by first responders is a powerful way to help address disparities in healthcare access. It’s an endeavor we’re passionate about and committed to see succeed.”
