WHAT
Research reports designed to guide the insurance industry toward proactive, quantitative solutions to identify, measure and address potential racial bias in insurance pricing have been published by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). The reports will be released during a virtual news briefing on Thursday, March 10, 12noon, Eastern Standard Time. For the purposes of the virtual news briefing, two of the four research papers will be highlighted:
- Methods for Quantifying Discriminatory Effects on Protected Classes in Insurance. Examining approaches to defining and measuring fairness in predictive models.
- Approaches to Address Racial Bias in Financial Services: Lessons for the Insurance Industry. Examining issues of racial bias in lending practice for mortgages, personal and commercial lending, as well as credit-scoring.
The two additional papers, Defining Discrimination in Insurance, and Understanding Potential Influences of Racial Bias on P&C Insurance: Four Rating Factors Explored, will be released in late March.
