A Caldwell hospital was recently honored for its diversity, equity and inclusion.

The Lown Institute named West Valley Medical Center as the most racially inclusive hospital in Idaho.

A report was issued by the institute, which is a nonpartisan health care think tank, which measured how 3,100 hospitals across the United States “served people of color in their surrounding communities.”

Data for the report was based on traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage claims and the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community survey issued in 2021.

“We are honored to once again learn we have earned this ranking,” said Travis Leach, chief executive officer of West Valley Medical Center. “It further illustrates our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion that has been a long tradition at West Valley.”

The hospital is a 150-bed facility and is owned by Nashville-based HCA Healthcare.

Leach said the hospital remains committed to “fostering an engaged and inclusive culture” for its patients, staff and communities it serves.

According to the Lown Institute, it gages the inclusivity score on people hospital could serve compared to those they do serve based on the demographics of hospital service areas. Researchers used census data in determining proportions of racial/ethnic groups in the 65-plus-year-old population in both hospital patient population and community.
