An Idaho woman has decided to sue her former fertility doctor, claiming he used his own sperm to inseminate her more than 30 years ago. The prevalence of Such cases have skyrocketed Because DNA testing has allowed people to learn more about their ancestry.

KIRO TV reported that Sharon Hayes, 67, of Hauser, Idaho, stated in the lawsuit that she was with Dr. David R. Claypool sought fertility treatment after she and her husband failed to conceive a child.

Hayes wanted the donor to remain anonymous, and Claypool told her that the donor would be selected based on characteristics she chose, such as hair and eye color. The donor should also be screened for possible genetic problems. Claypool allegedly demanded $100 in cash for each individual treatment. He told Hayes that the money would go to the college or medical students who donated the sperm.

It wasn’t until 2022 that her 33-year-old daughter Brianna Hayes discovered her biological father’s identity after submitting a DNA test to 23andMe.

“It was definitely an identity crisis,” she said. “It remained hidden from me my whole life. I felt traumatized by my mother and the fact that I am a product of his actions is disturbing.”

One of the most shocking discoveries Brianna made was that she apparently has 16 other half-siblings living in the area. The report did not mention whether any of the other women involved had filed a lawsuit against Claypool.

The claims involved in the Hayes case include fraud, failure to obtain consent in violation of the state’s medical malpractice law, and violation of the state’s Consumer Protection Act ABC News.

Brianna has apparently met several of her 16 half-siblings, but Claypool is said to have never met her. The reason for submitting a DNA test was to see if she could find information that might help explain her childhood diagnosis of leukemia, a disease that does not appear to run in the family on her mother’s side.

Brianna said her mother struggled with the news, saying: “[s]”He’s a puddle this morning,” adding that she feels “a lot of guilt for putting me in this situation.” I told her, “It wasn’t you at all – you went through all the appropriate channels to get this done.” do what you have to do.” “You were just being a mother and wanting to be a loving mother.”

The report did not specifically mention what the Hayes family is seeking with the lawsuit.
