ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — AdventHealth University is now one of 29 colleges and universities in Florida to earn a designation for its service to Hispanic students.

The school, which has campuses in Orlando and Denver, was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Hispanic Serving Institution.

According to officials, 35% of AdventHealth University’s undergraduates are Hispanic.

HSIs are defined as institutions with 25% or more Hispanic undergraduate full-time enrollment.

“As a highly diverse campus, we are committed to understanding each other’s cultures and backgrounds, removing financial and social barriers, and discovering each student’s talents and dreams,” said Ruben Martinez, senior vice president of finance for AdventHealth University.

Officials said the designation makes AdventHealth University eligible for additional funding to expand educational opportunities for Hispanic students and other underrepresented populations.

“Federal funding will allow institutions like AdventHealth University to enhance their approaches to making health care degrees more accessible, creating a diverse workforce and a more robust pipeline of professionals and leaders of tomorrow,” said U.S. Rep. Darren Soto (D-FL), who represents the 9th Congressional District.
