Last night, during a powerful and inspiring Gala at the 2025 NMQF Leadership Summit on Health Disparities, Dr. Michael Zollicoffer — affectionately known as Dr. Z — was recognized for his unwavering dedication to advancing health equity and his decades of service to children and families in underserved communities.
A beloved pediatrician, educator, and advocate, Dr. Z has spent his career not only providing care but also breaking down barriers to access and trust in healthcare. Known for his passion, authenticity, and commitment to vulnerable populations, Dr. Z’s work has touched thousands of lives — both in his exam room and far beyond.
The NMQF Gala honored Dr. Z as a leader who embodies the mission of the organization: using data, compassion, and action to drive lasting, systemic change. In a room filled with healthcare visionaries and changemakers, Dr. Z stood out as a beacon of community-rooted leadership and unshakable purpose.
“Dr. Z is more than a physician — he’s a force,” said Dr. Gary Puckrein, President and CEO of NMQF. “His deep connection to the people he serves and his relentless push for health justice make him one of the most important voices in minority health today.”
As we continue the Summit’s conversations around “From Data to Action,” Dr. Z’s legacy reminds us what it looks like to lead with heart, wisdom, and a bold vision for a healthier, more equitable future.
Congratulations, Dr. Z — your impact is immeasurable, and your voice continues to inspire the next generation of health equity leaders.
