Feb. 25—Jackson County reported 67 new COVID-19 cases Friday and no new COVID-related deaths.

Josephine County logged 28 new cases and no deaths.

Statewide, the Oregon Health Authority reported 981 new cases Friday and four more deaths.

In Oregon, 527 hospital patients had the virus Friday, down one from Thursday.

The number of COVID-19 hospital patients in Jackson and Josephine counties ticked up from 56 Thursday to 60 Friday, according to state hospitalization data.

Unvaccinated people make up the minority in Jackson and Josephine counties, but they make up the majority of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

At Asante’s three Rogue Valley hospitals Friday, 67% of COVID-19 patients were unvaccinated, 83% of COVID-19 patients in intensive care were unvaccinated and four of the five COVID-19 patients on ventilators were unvaccinated, the hospital network reported.

In the past 90 days, 81% of COVID-19 deaths at Asante hospitals were among unvaccinated people.

As they cared for COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients Friday, hospitals were at 89.4% capacity in the Rogue Valley, 89.9% capacity in the Roseburg and Eugene region, 95.4% capacity in the Salem region, 94.9% capacity in the Portland region, 79.6% capacity in Central Oregon, 90% capacity in the Hood River region and 61.8% capacity in far Eastern Oregon, hospitalization data showed.

In normal times, hospitals operate at about 60%-70% capacity, health experts say.
