Nearly all of the 28 families targeted in a burglary spree in San Francisco were Asian Americans.

A woman whose home in Outer Richmond was robbed in the spree spoke about the months of trauma since the crime in December 2021, ABC 7 reported. For safety concerns, she requested to be referred to as Ms R.

“It took a while for me to go outside and feel comfortable walking around by myself and with my parents or leaving my house, it took a while to get back to normal,” she said to ABC 7. “They drove into our driveway, all three went out and went into our house,”

Police arrested two men, Steve Levy and Deshawn White, for the 28 break-ins, KPIX reported. The San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said the burglaries occurred between December 2021 and March 2022.

The crimes happened in locations such as Sunset, Excelsior, and Visitation Valley neighborhoods, according to ABC 7.

The San Francisco Police Department said a certain demographic might have been targeted.

“We do know the 28 cases we were able to charge at this time, all but one were members of the Asian community,” Lieutenant Scott Ryan of the burglary unit said to ABC 7.

Ms. R said she is not surprised by the large number of Asian American families targeted in the crimes.

“Nobody is helping our community right now. They don’t think it’s happening because they don’t see it on TV that often,” she said to ABC 7.

The two suspects allegedly stole property, jewelry, and money in multiple burglaries, according to KCBS. One of the suspects, White, is said to have conducted eight of the burglaries and attempted burglaries on two separate nights.
