Washington, DC—Today, U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) President Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced that Tucson Mayor Regina Romero will be the new chair of the Conference’s Latino Alliance of Mayors. The Latino Alliance serves as a forum for mayors to address policy concerns, governmental participation, and the changing demographics of Latino communities in American cities.

“Mayor Romero has been a proud champion of her city and for the Latino community everywhere,” said Mayor Suarez. “The Latino Alliance works on the most pressing issues facing this community today. I am confident Mayor Romero will continue to help the organization advocate for policies that will both address these challenges and ultimately strengthen the rich and diverse fabric of our nation’s cities.”

“We have made so much progress since the Latino Alliance of Mayors launched eight years ago,” said Los Angeles Mayor and former Chair of the Alliance Eric Garcetti. “Mayor Romero is a powerful advocate for Latino families who constantly champions Latino voices. She will be a fantastic leader for the Alliance.”

The Latino Alliance of the U.S. Conference of Mayors was established in 2016 to ensure that the organization and its policies continue to be an accurate reflection of those who live in cities and their metropolitan areas. The Alliance includes both Latino mayors and non-Latino mayors who have a significant Latino population in their cities.

Mayor Romero will join other mayors from across the country to discuss current challenges facing Latino communities next month during the Conference’s upcoming 90^th Annual Meeting in Reno (NV). The Annual Meeting is slated to run from Friday, June 3 through Monday June 6 when hundreds of mayors will meet to discuss a wide range of priorities that contribute to the overall health of the nation’s cities and adopt the policy resolutions that guide the advocacy agenda of the organization.
