Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect memory — it touches entire families, neighborhoods, and generations. For many Black and Hispanic households, it comes with extra burdens: late diagnoses, harder decisions, and fewer culturally aware resources. But that’s starting to change — thanks to the work of advocates, caregivers, and initiatives like Heart to Heart from the National Minority Quality Forum (NMQF).
The Truth: We’re Hit Harder
Did you know that 1 in 5 Black adults over 70 lives with Alzheimer’s? For Latino seniors over 65, it’s nearly 1 in 8. That’s significantly higher than the general population — and yet, our stories are often left out of the national conversation. Why? Because systemic gaps in access, language barriers, stigma, and a shortage of culturally competent care mean many families don’t get help until it’s too late. But your story doesn’t have to end that way.
