Lawsuit filed on behalf of Poder Latinx challenging Arizona’s proof of citizenship law, HB 2492. This law requires Arizonans using federal forms to register to vote to provide documents proving their citizenship and requires election officials to provide the attorney general with a list of voters who do not provide satisfactory proof of citizenship. The plaintiffs allege that the challenged provisions of the law — including the citizenship investigation scheme and the documentary proof of residence requirement — violate the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses. The plaintiffs request that the court issue preliminary and permanent injunctions to prevent the enforcement of the challenged provisions of the law.
