Two new deaths from Covid-19 were reported in the Tuesday summary from the Delaware Division of Public Health as new cases dropped below 40.
The number of new cases tends to drop early after weekend-related delays in results but increases later in the week. However, there has been a long-running drop in new cases. At one point, the daily total had swelled to more than 3,200 in the early part of January.
The decline in cases continued last month, even with a blend of Valentine’s events and Super Bowl parties.
On Tuesday night, the state emergency order ends after being in effect in one form or another for nearly two years.
One of those who died was a resident of New Castle County, while the second resided in Kent County. Both were in their 70s and 80s, and one was a resident of a long-term care facility. One was fully vaccinated.
The death toll from the virus now stands at 2,711.
The other numbers:
• 36 new positive cases, bringing the overall total to 256,656.
• 4.1% of total tests were positive in the 7-day rolling average, down two-tenths of a percent from the previous day.
• 80 current hospitalizations, down ten from the previous day, including eight individuals in critical condition. In January, hospitalizations were 759, leading to a temporary mask mandate
• 15 new hospital admissions, up by seven from the previous day.
• 3,214 tests performed daily in the seven-day average, down 85 from the previous day
• 657,943 people fully vaccinated, up 72 from the previous day, according to the CDC Vaccine Tracker. More than 70% of the state’s residents have received at least one dose of vaccine.
• 1,731,962 total vaccine doses, up 11 from the previous day, according to the CDC Vaccine Tracker.
