Hispanic Elvis’ family is sharing more health updates on the San Antonio personality known for his rockstar outfits, dance moves, and attitude to match. A GoFundMe set up by George Cisneros, Hispanic Elvis’ youngest brother, says his condition is deteriorating following a January hospitalization.
The Market Square staple was hospitalized with an esophagus infection and COVID-19 on January 10. On January 24, Cisneros told GoFundMe supporters that his brother had been released to a rehabilitation facility and “only time would tell” when he’d be able to bounce back. The page was quiet for weeks until Tuesday, March 22.
Cisneros’ latest post says he realizes many San Antonians are concerned about his brother.
“Well things aren’t going too well, he’s been put on hospice now,” the post says. “I was told to make funeral arrangements for him in which I’ve done already. A lot of people have emailed me how they miss seeing him at Market Square and hope he’s doing better. I really appreciate everyone’s concern for him.”
Cisneros was not immediately available to comment for this story, but previously told MySA the 76-year-old’s Hispanic Elvis persona was his way of “living his dream.” He says he used to be a musician in the 1960s before working for an autobody shop and then becoming Hispanic Elvis more than 20 years ago.
“Some people don’t understand him because of what he does,” Cisneros said. “My brother’s living his dream, even though it’s later in life, but he has always been a performer. He’s not out to hurt anyone.”
The online fundraiser has raised more than $4,000 from more than 148 donors. Many of the donations come with a note honoring Hispanic Elvis.
“May you get well soon. Market Square is not the same without you,” Maria Nava writes online. “My family & I make it a point to visit San Antonio & Market Square because of you. May god bless you!”
