Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO), one of the leading youth orchestras in the country and haven for Dallas’ most talented, elite youth musicians, is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural live “jazz in the community” series in partnership with the Sammons Center for the Arts in honor of GDYO’s 50th anniversary.
The Sammons Center for the Arts is an innovative incubator for arts organizations across the city, and the first of its kind in the county. To celebrate both GDYO’s milestone anniversary and Jazz Appreciation Month (April), the organizations are partnering to bring jazz into underserved communities that typically do not have access or exposure to the arts, aiming to inspire the next generation of North Texas musicians. The four free, community concerts will pair the GDYO Jazz Orchestra and GDYO Jazz Combo with Dallas jazz legends Shelley Carrol (sax) and Jorge Ginorio (percussion) as they perform arrangements of Texas-based jazz composers.
The four free, community concerts will take place around Dallas:.
