The organizers of the Stuttgart Open have launched an investigation into the racism allegations made by Nick Kyrgios during his semifinal match against Andy Murray yesterday.
Kyrgios was defeated in straight sets and awarded a penalty after smashing his racket and exchanging heated words with members of the crowd.
However, it later emerged that he had retaliated after an apparent racist remark.
On Instagram, he wondered when the abuse would “stop”, claiming that he was called a “little black sheep” and that he should “shut up and play”.
In response, the event has now insisted that discrimination will not be “tolerated” and confirmed that they will investigate the incident.

“We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all,” it said in a statement.
They added: “Discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.
“These fundamental values are just as important to us as values such as honesty, tolerance and team spirit. So no discriminatory actions from the spectators will be accepted.

“We have expressed our regret to Nick Kyrgios and his team and have assured that any form of discrimination is unacceptable.
“The incident is currently under investigation.”

A tiebreak decided the opening set between the two players, before Kyrgios was hit with a points and game penalty after arguing with the chair umpire.
He also refused to play in the second set until the supervisor intervened.
