Annual Black Health Fair & Relationship Seminar

February 24 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Annual Black Health Fair and Relationship Seminar, hosted by The Virginia Black History Month Association (VaBHMA), is open to the public! All are welcome to attend.  Light hors d’oeuvres will be served. These two events will take place simultaneously.

The Black Health Fair: According to the US Department of Health and Human Services – Office of Minority Health, African American adults are 80% more likely than non-Hispanic white adults to have been diagnosed with diabetes by a physician. In addition, African American men and women are 30% more likely to die from heart disease than non-Hispanic white males.  For many of us, these statistics are not only alarming but preventable in some cases.  Time after time, we hear of family and friends who were diagnosed with a serious illness which could have had a better outcome, if only, they would have been making regular visits to the doctor’s office for checkups and preventative screenings.

Therefore, the VaBHMA has invited 30 or more Health Organizations to perform on-the-spot prescreening (if possible), provide lifesaving information, or set up appointments for the community to get screened by their private physician. Our goal is to save lives by providing much-needed information to those who need it most. The African American Community.

The Relationship Seminar: Whether you are married, in a committed relationship, or single and looking for the right person, we invite you to come and listen or take part in our Relationship Seminar.  Having the right skills to maintain a healthy relationship is important to all those looking to maintain lasting relationships. Regardless of your relationship status, you will need to be empowered with “the right tools” to maintain a healthy long-term relationship.

You should also know “the ground rules” for maintaining a healthy relationship to prepare yourself for the coming years.  Having the right tools and understanding the ground rules could be the difference between moving from dating to a long-term and loving marriage.  And even if you are already married, experts say that married couples should attend a marriage seminar at least once a year to keep the relationship motor tuned and ready for the challenges that may lie ahead.

The plan is to invite professional relationship experts who will create a distinguished panel of experience that will discuss the do’s and don’ts of healthy relationships.  Then we will open the floor for questions from the audience to help our guests to pinpoint any unique relationship issues that were missed. Our goal is to empower our guests with vital information on how to keep their relationships healthy and positive.

The seminar will be held inside the ballroom of the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center. Seating is first come first served.  Children under the age of 18 years old may not attend without the presence of a consenting parent.
